With the largest electrical passenger vessel in Germany across Lake Starnberg

A new, purely electrically powered passenger vessel has left our customer, Lux Werft in Niederkassel near Bonn, to transport up to 300 passengers on Lake Starnberg in the future. With a length of 35 meters and a width of 8.5 meters, the new tourist vessel of Bayerische Seenschifffahrt is the largest of its (drive) kind throughout Germany.

Transporting this floating electric giant was a major task for all involved. It made the first leg of its journey by water on the Main Danube Canal to Passau. Once it arrived in Passau, it was disassembled into four parts and continued its journey on a low-loader. The heavy transporter with the 110 ton hull completed the 600 kilometer journey from Niederkassel on the Rhine to Lake Starnberg in a total of two weeks. In addition to narrow roads and sharp curves, man-sized traffic signs also proved to be an obstacle, requiring precision work on the part of the carrier.

The first round trips are scheduled to start at the beginning of the new season at Easter. A battery system with a capacity of 1600 kilowatt hours provides the required electrical energy. For an allround successful environmental and climate protection project, the battery system will, of course, be charged with green electricity. For optimum travel comfort the new ship also has an elevator and a charging station for e-bikes.

On board of the electrical excursion vessel, our TT3 Neo isolating transformer is installed as a component for the power supply below deck. With an output of 100 kVA, this transformer was developed as a customized solution for Lux Werft.

The innovative winding structure of the TT3 Neo allows to evenly dissipate the heat loss that occurs during operation. This optimizes the cooling of the isolating transformer. In its function as a transformer, it also forms a neutral point so that single-phase, everyday consumer devices on the passenger vessel can be supplied with 230 V/50 Hz. Thus, our BLOCK custom-made transformer acts as a supply element for ship and passengers.
